Microsoft has replaced its hotmail email service with a modern cloud based email service called Outlook after its email desktop client after all it looks like a desktop application. It is in hindsight, more attractive than Gmail with social media networking integration and Skype video calling. It is also integrated with the SkyDrive cloud service, Office and even Facebook Chat.
What’s in Outlook
Outlook is more than a hotmail update. Coming to social media integration, you can import your Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn contacts into Outlook and are synchronize automatically along with Outlook contacts. Content from these services will be displayed in the sidebar. Now chat in Facebook also through Outlook.
Chatting becomes more impressive especially because Skype is enabled and you do not need to install it in your computer to use Skype in Outlook. This browser enabled Skype using Outlook is only previewed now, but when it launches fully you can have video calls to Outlook and Skype users.
Another catch is you can view and edit Office documents directly from your inbox. Photo slideshows are also enabled. Moreover, you can save files in SkyDrive too. The inbox is typical with support for filters, folders, and categories. ActiveSynch support is provided for use with mobile gadgets.
Looks Impressive
In a quick comparison to Gmail, Outlook sure does look better and more promising. The reason is easy Outlook is integrated better with social media networks than Gmail. Support for opening and editing documents look better in Outlook. However, what you are going to love more is the Skype integration. Now your video calls in this cloud email service will be via Skype. Maybe the Outlook idea was the reason Microsoft acquired Skype earlier.
Hotmail users are in for a staunch treat upgrade to Outlook by going to the Options menu and clicking Upgrade.
