The latest version of Android, the Ice Cream Sandwich, will be running in Sony Ericsson gadgets as early as March 2012. The update schedule for Sony Ericsson phones to Android 4.0 has been released, and it will be offered through a PC connection over the internet or through the air. It is suggested that users wait a bit more before hastily checking for updates from their handsets.
The Update Schedule
Sony Ericsson phones- the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Ray, and Xperia Neo V will be the first to feature the latest version of Google’s Android OS in late March or early April. By the end of May, Arc, Neo, Xperia Play, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Acitve and the handset with walkman player also will be upgraded. This phased upgrade to ICS was announced in the product blog of Sony Ericsson. All features and kits of a particular model will be upgraded over a period of a few weeks
The Update Process
Sony Ericsson has been remarkably clear about the Android update process. It has published the gist of what it takes to make the ICS to every Sony Ericsson handset in the coming months. Once the new OS is available from Google Sony Ericsson developers will incorporate the new Android OS into the existing Xperia software.
The code is tested for meeting expectations of customers and is approved by all partners of the mobile devices manufacturer. When everything tests finely, it is introduced into all Xperia handsets. What has been surprising is the transparency of the upgrading approach adopted by Sony Ericsson. Few companies do such a clearly communicated process. In the persisting Android race, it may come to the aid of the mobile giant. All these occur in the backdrop of Ericsson and Sony split.
