Based on reports by Taiwan based Digitimes, Apple will be releasing its third generation of iPads in two basic models, if the rumors are to be believed. Apple will unveil its iPad 3 in a technical conference in January in the New Year. The iPad is expected to revitalize its features and price to handle the growing competition from other tablet vendors especially Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
The iPad 3 will be launched in the MacWorld and iWorld expo on 26th of January 2012. Apple will now concentrate on entry level and mid level segments apart from high end segments of the market. The lower cost iPad 2 will compete with the Kindle Fire meanwhile the enhanced iPad introduced in the New Year will feature the latest technology. It is being said that the new iPads will have display screens of higher resolution and has dual LED lighting systems to brighten up the tablet display. Earlier in the month, Digitimes had reported the expected launch of iPad 3 to be within three to four months quoting unnamed supply chain sources, but now it is said that it will be launched early in 2012 itself. Looking at the sequence of release dates of the previous versions of iPad, it will be launched in January 2012.
Apple has ended the year on a high with a stable and large market share of tablets globally. Apple has been way ahead of its competitors in using technologies for the user rather than for the developer or manufacturer as none of the others have matched its user friendliness. Android tablets like the Xoom from Motorola and Kindle Fire form Amazon have impressed. The 7-inch Kindle Fire has become a major competitor of Apple gadgets. With the imminent introduction of Windows 8, the tablet market will heat up.
