The new generation iPads are expected to come in two faces- the successor to iPad 2, the iPad 3 and iPad Mini. The iPad Mini is believed to be of lower cost and specs and not of smaller display, possibly contrived to thwart the competition from the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet. iPad 3 is expected to hit hard on Apple competitors who have not yet matched the perfection of Apple design save the high prices.
The production volumes for iPad 2 is predicted to reduce from 14-15 million units in the final quarter of 2011 to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of the next year. Meanwhile, estimated 10 million next generation gadgets are expected to hit markets in 2012. Asian based supply chain manufacturers have readied themselves for release in early 2012, and iPad 3 parts have already started to roll out.
New iPad Features
The low end product, iPad Mini will be coming in a 7.85 inch wide display with the same resolution of 1024 x 768 as in iPad 2. It will run on the advanced ARM Cortex A9 core processor and has 512 MB of RAM. The iPad 3 will feature a QXGA retina display with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536.
Gearing up for iPad 3
Digitimes has reported that the supply chain manufacturers of Apple have started to reduce the production of iPad 2 components to concentrate on the imminent new generation that will be kick started in the first quarter of the next year. Foxconn Electronics, the Chinese device manufacturing company designing the iPad for Apple will roll out the first next generation iPads starting from January next year. The production volumes will then be increased in the following months starting from February. This was reported in the Chinese Commercial Times quoting a Citigroup Global Markets analyst, Kevin Chang.
