The Sony PS 3 Slim is the younger cousin of the standard PS3 gaming console and comes with most of the features of the console except that you do not have IR and backward support for PS2 titles. Nevertheless, you will not mind because it doubles up as a Blu-Ray player and comes at an affordable price.
Features
The Slim PS3 is a scaled down version of the PS3 with most of its features. The 160 GB version sells out for $299 while 320 GB and 320 GB Move Bundle costs more. You could not install another OS into the console or play PS2 games. Profile 2.0 and BD Live is however not dropped. The built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet LAN, HDMI out are customary. The console plays Blu-Ray videos and streamed videos too.
The Good
The Sony PS3 Slim sports a compact design and is much slimmer than the original PS3 console. The $299 price has made it more affordable. The Slim console even doubles up as your Blu-Ray/DVD player. With an easy to use and uncomplicated interface and high definition games, it has all of those features like Wi-Fi, web browsing facility, online gaming, and 1080p HDMI out.
The Bad
The online market, gaming and streaming services are not as strong as the Xbox Live although they are getting better with new models of the console. Another worry can be that your universal remotes will not be supported because the console only supports Bluetooth and not IR. Backward support for PS2 games, which are now available in the standard PS3 gaming consoles, will not be available here that is another disappointment.
Verdict
The petite design and HD gaming possibilities in an efficient system coupled with the multimedia and built-in Blu-Ray player possibilities make Sony PS3 Slim an excellent choice and more so because the price tag is considerably lower.
